AI First Reporting is NewStore's way of providing you with easy access to your business performance data. Instead of opening a report and applying filters, you can ask a plain-language question in an AI assistant or model you already use, such as Claude or ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible AI tool, and get an answer based on your business data available in NewStore Insights.
It is built on the same activity model and semantic layer that power NewStore reporting today, delivered via an MCP connector. Build dashboards or tables with your NewStore data in minutes with the connector.
Early Access
This feature is currently in Early Access and is not available to everyone.
How does AI First Reporting help you?
Ask the questions you actually have. You are not limited to pre-built dashboards or report templates. Ask about a store, a specific sales time period, or an associate the way you would ask a colleague or team lead, and follow up in the same conversation.
Answers you can trust across sessions. A semantic layer connects your data and the AI tool and acts as a dictionary for metrics such as net sales and AOV. This helps provide consistent answers that do not deviate from context.
Scoped to your organization. You sign in with your existing Omnichannel Manager (NOM) login credentials, and results are limited to the stores and accounts your NOM permissions already have access to.
Works where your team already works. Use the AI assistant or tool your organization has approved, eliminating the need to learn new tools.
When should you use AI First Reporting
AI First Reporting complements Insights, it does not replace it. Use the connector when you want to:
Check daily or weekly store performance, such as net sales, order counts, AOV, return rate, or items sold in a store.
Compare stores across your estate, or compare one period against another, in a single conversation within the AI tool.
Deep dive into associate-specific sales and attribution.
Explore reporting avenues before deciding whether a subject needs a formal report
Keep using Insights when you need a persistent, shareable dashboard, scheduled report distribution, or a validated figure for financial reporting.
The MCP connector currently covers sales order data only. Reconcile data or mismatches in Insights, which is the master source for all NewStore data.
Prerequisites
You need access to Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP-compatible AI assistant with the ability to add custom connectors.
You authenticate with your existing NewStore Omnichannel Manager (NOM) login.
Someone with admin rights in NOM needs to assign users the View Insights permission, in the new NewStore MCP permission group, before they can query data through the connector. See Getting started with AI First Reporting.
Getting started with AI First Reporting
Access to the connector is controlled by a permission group in NOM called NewStore MCP. Within that group, the View Insights permission controls whether a user can access the connector.
Without this permission assigned, a user can complete authentication but won't be able to query any data through the connector. It will look connected, but every question will come back empty.
In NOM, go to
Settings > Users & Roles > Rolesto select a role, and add theNewStore MCPpermission group.A user assigned to the role will be able to access the MCP Server.
Alternatively you can create a new custom role such as
MCPand assign that role to users who need access to AI First Reporting.
If you're not sure who has admin rights to do this on your team, talk to your point of contact at NewStore.
Using the MCP connector to leverage AI First Reporting
The connector queries the same sales order data available to you today in Insights.
Your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, or other) generates the answer. Your data is passed through that provider to generate a response.
Authentication is scoped to your organization. You can only query your own environment, not any other retailer's data.
The data available via the MCP connector is the same as is currently available via Insights.
Important
NewStore is responsible for the accuracy of the underlying data. We're not responsible for how the AI assistant interprets the data or summarizes on top of it. If a number looks off, reconcile the data in Insights or another validated source.
The connector URL is: https://api.newstore.net/mcp
AI tools differ in the ways in which they allow you to connect to MCP servers. Generally your IT department controls which MCP tools employees can access and it will be up to them to add the connector URL to the AI tool.
We have provided some examples of connecting the AI First Reporting MCP connector to a few popular AI tools.
