To ensure your app's listing stays visually appealing and aligned with your brand or feature updates, update various graphics such as screenshots, the app icon, or promotional videos.

This guide helps you update images in your app.

1. Access the Google Play console

  1. Visit: https://play.google.com/console

  2. Log in with your Google Developer Account credentials.

  3. Make sure you have the appropriate admin or app access permissions to manage store listings.

2. Select your app

  1. In the All apps dashboard, click the app for which you want to update images.

  2. You are directed to the app’s overview page.

3. Navigate to the store listing

  • In the left-hand menu, click the Store Presence section.

  • Click on Main store listing (or Custom store listing if you're targeting specific countries or languages).

This is where you'll manage most of your visual assets and metadata for the Play Store listing.

4. Locate and manage image sections

Scroll down to find the graphics assets section, which includes:

Screenshots

  • Available for different device types:

    • Phone

    • 7-inch tablet

    • 10-inch tablet

  • For each section:

    • Click the relevant tab.

    • Click + Add screenshots or drag & drop image files into the drop area.

    • You can upload up to 8 screenshots per device type.

    • Requirements:

      • JPG or PNG format.

      • Min dimension: 320px.

      • Max dimension: 3840px.

      • The max file size per image is 8MB.

      • Screenshots must be in the correct aspect ratio for the device type.

App icons

  • Scroll to the App icon section.

  • Follow the instructions to upload a new icon.

  • Requirements:

    • 512 x 512 pixels

    • 32-bit PNG

    • Max size: 1MB

    • Transparent background is not allowed (use a solid background).

Feature Graphic / Promo Video (optional)

  • Feature Graphic:

    • Size: 1024 x 500 pixels, JPG or PNG.

    • Used on the Play Store homepage and app preview areas.

  • Promo Video:

    • Hosted on YouTube.

    • Paste the YouTube URL in the designated field.

5. Save changes and submit for review

  • After updating or adding your assets:

    • Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

    • Then click Submit update or Send for review (depending on whether you're making a metadata-only change or releasing a new version).

  • If you're only changing images or store assets (without uploading a new APK or AAB), it's considered a store listing update, which usually doesn’t require a new version rollout.

6. Wait for processing and approval

  • Visual asset updates typically go live within a few hours.

  • However, app icons, titles, and descriptions may be subject to Google’s review process, which can take up to 24–48 hours.

  • You can monitor the update status on the app's dashboard.

Tips and best practices

  • Ensure all screenshots accurately reflect the latest app version and match the user experience.

  • Localize screenshots and promotional assets for different languages and regions if applicable.

  • Avoid including promotional content with time-limited claims (for example,  “50% off this week”) unless you're prepared to update frequently.
