To ensure your app's listing stays visually appealing and aligned with your brand or feature updates, update various graphics such as screenshots, the app icon, or promotional videos.
This guide helps you update images in your app.
1. Access the Google Play console
Log in with your Google Developer Account credentials.
Make sure you have the appropriate admin or app access permissions to manage store listings.
2. Select your app
In the
All apps
dashboard, click the app for which you want to update images.You are directed to the app’s overview page.
3. Navigate to the store listing
In the left-hand menu, click the
Store Presence
section.Click on
Main store listing
(orCustom store listing
if you're targeting specific countries or languages).
This is where you'll manage most of your visual assets and metadata for the Play Store listing.
4. Locate and manage image sections
Scroll down to find the graphics assets
section, which includes:
Screenshots
Available for different device types:
Phone
7-inch tablet
10-inch tablet
For each section:
Click the relevant tab.
Click
+ Add screenshots
or drag & drop image files into the drop area.You can upload up to 8 screenshots per device type.
Requirements:
JPG or PNG format.
Min dimension: 320px.
Max dimension: 3840px.
The max file size per image is 8MB.
Screenshots must be in the correct aspect ratio for the device type.
App icons
Scroll to the
App icon
section.Follow the instructions to upload a new icon.
Requirements:
512 x 512 pixels
32-bit PNG
Max size: 1MB
Transparent background is not allowed (use a solid background).
Feature Graphic / Promo Video (optional)
Feature Graphic:
Size: 1024 x 500 pixels, JPG or PNG.
Used on the Play Store homepage and app preview areas.
Promo Video:
Hosted on YouTube.
Paste the YouTube URL in the designated field.
5. Save changes and submit for review
After updating or adding your assets:
Scroll to the bottom and click Save.
Then click
Submit update
orSend for review
(depending on whether you're making a metadata-only change or releasing a new version).
If you're only changing images or store assets (without uploading a new APK or AAB), it's considered a store listing update, which usually doesn’t require a new version rollout.
6. Wait for processing and approval
Visual asset updates typically go live within a few hours.
However, app icons, titles, and descriptions may be subject to Google’s review process, which can take up to 24–48 hours.
You can monitor the update status on the app's dashboard.
Tips and best practices
Ensure all screenshots accurately reflect the latest app version and match the user experience.
Localize screenshots and promotional assets for different languages and regions if applicable.
Avoid including promotional content with time-limited claims (for example, “50% off this week”) unless you're prepared to update frequently.
