Instead of opening a report and applying filters, you can ask a plain-language question in an AI assistant or model you already use, such as Claude or ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible AI tool, and get an answer based on your business data available in NewStore Insights. It is built on the same activity model and semantic layer that power NewStore reporting today, delivered via an MCP connector. Build dashboards or tables with your NewStore data in minutes with the connector. > [!WARNING] > **Early Access** This feature is currently in *Early Access* and is not available to everyone. ### How does AI First Reporting help you? - **Ask the questions you actually have.** You are not limited to pre-built dashboards or report templates. Ask about a store, a specific sales time period, or an associate the way you would ask a colleague or team lead, and follow up in the same conversation. - **Answers you can trust across sessions.** A semantic layer connects your data and the AI tool and acts as a dictionary for metrics such as net sales and AOV. This helps provide consistent answers that do not deviate from context. - **Scoped to your organization.** You sign in with your existing Omnichannel Manager (NOM) login credentials, and results are limited to the stores and accounts your NOM permissions already have access to. - **Works where your team already works.** Use the AI assistant or tool your organization has approved, eliminating the need to learn new tools. ### When should you use AI First Reporting AI First Reporting complements [Insights](/v1/docs/insights), it does not replace it. Use the connector when you want to: - Check daily or weekly store performance, such as net sales, order counts, AOV, return rate, or items sold in a store. - Compare stores across your estate, or compare one period against another, in a single conversation within the AI tool. - Deep dive into associate-specific sales and attribution. - Explore reporting avenues before deciding whether a subject needs a formal report Keep using Insights when you need a persistent, shareable dashboard, scheduled report distribution, or a validated figure for financial reporting. The MCP connector currently covers sales order data only. Reconcile data or mismatches in Insights, which is the master source for all NewStore data. ## Prerequisites - You need access to Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP-compatible AI assistant with the ability to add custom connectors. - You authenticate with your existing NewStore Omnichannel Manager (NOM) login. - Someone with admin rights in NOM needs to assign users the **View Insights** permission, in the new **NewStore MCP** permission group, before they can query data through the connector. See [Getting started with AI First Reporting](/v1/docs/ai-first-reporting-mcp-connector-early-access#getting-started-with-ai-first-reporting1). ## Getting started with AI First Reporting Access to the connector is controlled by a permission group in NOM called `NewStore MCP`. Within that group, the `View Insights` permission controls whether a user can access the connector. Without this permission assigned, a user can complete authentication but won't be able to query any data through the connector. It will look connected, but every question will come back empty. 1. In NOM, go to `Settings > Users & Roles > Roles` to select a role, and add the `NewStore MCP` permission group. 2. A user assigned to the role will be able to access the MCP Server. 3. Alternatively you can create a new custom role such as `MCP` and assign that role to users who need access to AI First Reporting. If you're not sure who has admin rights to do this on your team, talk to your point of contact at NewStore. ## Using the MCP connector to leverage AI First Reporting - The connector queries the same sales order data available to you today in Insights. - Your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, or other) generates the answer. Your data is passed through that provider to generate a response. - Authentication is scoped to your organization. You can only query your own environment, not any other retailer's data. - The data available via the MCP connector is the same as is currently available via [Insights](/v1/docs/insights). > [!CAUTION] > **Important** NewStore is responsible for the accuracy of the underlying data. We're not responsible for how the AI assistant interprets the data or summarizes on top of it. If a number looks off, reconcile the data in Insights or another validated source. The connector URL is: `https://api.newstore.net/mcp` AI tools differ in the ways in which they allow you to connect to MCP servers. Generally your IT department controls which MCP tools employees can access and it will be up to them to add the connector URL to the AI tool. We have provided some examples of connecting the AI First Reporting MCP connector to a few popular AI tools. ### Claude #### **Team and Enterprise Plans** > [!TIP] > Note > > You must be an `Owner` or `Primary Owner` to follow these steps. 1. Navigate to `Organization settings` > `Connectors`. 2. Click `Add`. 3. Hover over `Custom` , then select `Web`. 4. Add the connector's remote MCP server URL: `https://api.newstore.net/mcp` 5. Click `Add` to finish configuring the MCP connector. Users in your organization can now connect the MCP server via `Settings` > `Connectors`. #### Individual Plans If you are on an individual plan or have the rights to add your own custom connectors: 1. Go to `Settings` **>** `Connectors`. 2. Click `Add custom connector` at the bottom of the page. 3. Enter a name (for example, `NewStore`) and paste the connector URL: `https://api.newstore.net/mcp` 4. Click `Add`, then click `Connect`. A browser page opens for your to authenticate, where you must sign in with your Omnichannel Manager login credentials. 5. After you are authenticated, you are redirected back to Claude, and the connector is available to use in your conversations. ### ChatGPT #### **Team, Business, or Enterprise or Edu Plans** > [!TIP] > Note > > You must have admin or owner access to your organization’s ChatGPT workspace to follow these steps. 1. As an admin, go to `Workspace Settings` **>** `Permissions & Roles`, and turn on `Developer mode` for the organization. This is disabled by default and must be enabled before any custom MCP connector can be added. You can use RBAC to control which roles get access, rather than enabling it for everyone. 2. Return to the menu and select `Create app` or `Add custom connector` (under Apps/Connectors). 3. Create the custom connector: Add a name (for example, `NewStore`) and the connector URL: `https://api.newstore.net/mcp`, then publish it to the workspace. 4. Users can then find it in their `Apps` directory, where they need to select `Connect`. 5. They are redirected to authenticate. Sign in with your Omnichannel Manager login credentials. 6. After you are authenticated, you are redirected back to ChatGPT, and the connector is available to use in your conversations. #### Individual Plans If you are on an individual plan or have the rights to add your own custom connectors: 1. Ensure that you are on the web version on ChatGPT. 2. Go to `Settings` **>** `Plugins`. 3. Select `Developer Mode`, and enable `Developer mode`. This is required to add custom MCP connectors. 4. Go back to `Plugins` **>** `Browse Plugins` and click `+` to add a new `Plugin`. 5. Enter a name (for example, `NewStore`), and paste the connector under Server URL: `https://api.newstore.net/mcp`. 6. Select `OAuth` as the authentication method. 7. Accept the terms and then click `Create`, then `Connect`. 8. You are redirected to authenticate. Sign in with your Omnichannel Manager login credentials. 9. Once authenticated, you are redirected back to ChatGPT, and the connector is available to use in your conversations. ### Microsoft Copilot > [!WARNING] > Coming Soon ### Example prompts to try with the AI First Reporting MCP connector - "What were the total net sales for [store] yesterday?" - "How did [store] perform this week vs last week?" - "Show me net sales by store for the past 7 days, ranked." - "What were [associate]'s sales today?"
